A lot of names came to mind while thinking for a name for this blog. I discarded the names one by one and finally settled with "batiriday.com". :) I know, the name is not promising at all, it's not even catchy, but here are some reasons why this blog of mine is named "batiriday.com":
1. Batiriday is my special petname and I believe that the name is solely mine and that it's also part of my being (I think so). A petname that only one person uses in calling me: my beloved father. And I truly adore him for exerting an effort in giving us petnames. That’s how sweet Papa was. “Batiriday” is for me and “Batiriti” for my only brother. And it’s really music to my ears everytime Papa calls me that because I truly feel his unconditional love and care.
2. The word Batiriday evokes the Probinsyana in me. :) I don't know why, but everytime I read the word, the bukid living that I'm accustomed to rushes into my mind together with the games I played during childhood (shato, tago2x, pusil2x, kote, sabong ug gamba, jen2x, buwan2x, etc.), the water fetching from a deep well, the popular delicious viand in the province (buwad, ginamos, utan, ujab, kinahason, etc.), the rice planting and harvesting, the pond in my grandparent's little farm, the kabaw, baka, kanding, pabo, manok, baboy and other animals that my Lolo and Lola are raising and many other things associated with bukid living, the kind of living that I'm loving and missing. The kind of living that I'll happily live once again in the near future.:)
3. coz Batiriday connotes others. Though I believe that the name is solely mine, but everytime I read the name, I don't think of my self alone, but others as well. Other people who is also like me: a child, a daughter, a dreamer, an OFW, a citizen hoping that her country will soon rise from poverty, a sister, a daughter of God, a Probinsyana, a face among the crowd, etc.
4. And with #3, it means that this blog is not about me alone. It will also be about my friends and people who have inspiring stories to tell(both in Pinas and abroad) . Especially my co-OFWs who decided to work abroad, not for their own good, but for the brighter future of their beloved families. Two thumbs up para sa Mga Bagong Bayani Ng Pilipinas! because I do believe that : "While it is wise to learn from experience, it is wiser to learn from the experiences of others." - The Purpose Driven Life, page 292.
